Project Overview: As part of the utility’s preventive maintenance program O’Connell Electric is performing repair services, primary conductor, line equipment, and pole upgrades.

Project Overview: Schlumberger's 40,000 square foot facility will include a maintenance shop, bulk storage area, truck wash, and administrative buildings.
O'Connell's Role: O’Connell Electric will be installing all site electrical work for this project including 12.5 kV service that will provide two sources of power to each building.
As part of the project, O’Connell will be installing the site lighting, thirty power stations for vehicle chargers and block heaters, all teledata cable pathways, and site security.
Installed on this project will be 75,000 feet of underground conduit, 20,000 feet of HV cable, and 40,000 feet of 600V cable.

Project Overview: Laurel Mountain, also called Laurel Hill, is a long ridge in north central West Virginia. Along with the Rich Mountains to the south, it is considered to be the westernmost ridge of the Allegheny Mountains and the boundary between the Alleghenies and the Allegheny Plateau. It is in this region that about 60 windmills stretching from Randolph into Barbour County will be constructed along with a substation, O&M building, and switchyard. The wind farm will have the capacity to generate about 130 megawatts of electricity. The project is scheduled to be finished during the summer of 2011.
O'Connell's Role: O’Connell’s role in this significant project includes underground infrastructure, collection circuitry, communication connectivity, commissioning and energizing the wind farm.

Project Overview: New York Power Authority (NYPA) has embarked on building a new warehouse and office complex for the Niagara Power Project. The Power Authority’s plans for the three-story warehouse and office complex stem from 2006 agreements in which Niagara University (NU) committed to support NYPA’s application for the federal relicensing of the Niagara project. The new facility will be built to specifications necessary for qualifying for Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Program. This program provides third-party verification of a building’s efficiency in the use of energy and other resources. NYPA is projecting a completion date during the summer of 2011 for the state of the art warehouse facility.
O'Connell's Role: O’Connell will be performing all necessary work to provide 13.2kV power from the existing facility along with installing approximately a mile of new duct bank and communications backbone.
The project involves installation of a new security (access control, video surveillance, command and control) and fire alarm systems that fully integrate with existing systems.

Project Overview: The Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge, also known as the St. Lawrence Bridge and the Seaway Skyway, is a suspension bridge connecting Ogdensburg, New York in the United States to Johnstown, Ontario in Canada. Completed in 1960, it has a main span of 1,151 feet across the St. Lawrence River with a total distance of approximately 1.5 miles. A $22.3 million project to repair and upgrade the suspension bridge is underway to replace existing deteriorated steel deck structure, also deck replacement; elimination of raised safety walks; replacement of longitudinal stringers; replacement of bridge rail, and floor beam repair.
O'Connell's Role: O’Connell’s role is renovation of all electric services to the bridge including new under bridge raceway systems from one side to the other and installing new toll booths.

Project Overview: This project requires O’Connell Electric to install 115kV conduit and cable systems to provide power to NYSEG’s “new” Sullivan Park 115kV to 12kV Substation for the purpose of meeting the increased load demands of Corning Glass.

Project Overview: The nursing program at Monroe Community College outgrew the capabilities of its existing facility. Other campus buildings were either outdated or inadequate for new teaching methods, optimum class section sizes, and current/future technologies. A grant has been made to the college that will allow the Nursing program to expand into new state-of-the-art facilities.
O'Connell's Role: In connection with building an energy efficient and environmentally friendly building, O’Connell Electric will be installing a 46kW photo voltaic system on the roof. The system will be tied directly to the MCC power distribution system and utilized within the campus producing in excess of 50,000kwH per year.

Project Overview: This project is part of the utilities’ systematic capital improvement program. One of O'Connell's responsibilities involves replacement of nitrogen gas filled 34.5kV cable with solid die-electric cables to improve reliability as well as increase capacity on the underground circuits.

Project Overview: This project is the final phase of establishing power redundancy for a set of network transformers and associated network protectors at the hospital in addition to the ramp garage, doctor’s office building and Hinshaw building. In addition to the power redundancy, distribution equipment on the load side of the network protectors will be replaced.

Project Overview: St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center $220 million expansion is the largest project in the hospital’s 140 year history. The expansion will include a new emergency services building, operating rooms, intensive care unit, private patient rooms, kitchen, a new data center and an emergency generator along with construction of a new loading dock building.
The expansion also will include a green roof, solar panels, site drainage and many other features that will make it environmentally friendly. The new facility will be built to specifications necessary for qualifying for Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Program.
O'Connell's Role: In connection with this significant expansion project, O’Connell Electric will install two new unit sub-stations to provide power to the new expansion buildings and redundancy power to the existing hospital. This project also includes installing interior and exterior lighting systems, day light harvesting lighting controls, branch wiring systems, cable tray systems, security systems, CCTV systems, life safety systems, clock and intercom systems, communications wiring (copper and fiber) & equipment and a complete lightning protection system.

In keeping with their mission and commitment to provide the best available healthcare services to all individuals in their community and region, Lourdes Hospital recently launched a three-year, $70 million expansion and update project designed to bring in new and advanced technologies, state-of-the-art department upgrades, as well as improve their outpatient service package.
Lourdes Hospital had its start as a twenty-five bed facility in a Binghamton, New York mansion purchased by area residents in 1925. Administered by Daughters of Charity (now Ascension Health), the hospital has been known for its groundbreaking service offerings over the past eight-and-a-half decades, being first to provide a recovery room, intensive care unit, and hospice to New York State’s Southern Tier region as well as cancer center and electrodiagnostic laboratory.
O’Connell has maintained a long-standing working relationship with Lourde’s as well as dozens of other hospitals across New York State. Working directly for the hospital, we were awarded a competitive bid contract for $1.9 million to perform all electrical construction. The project involved expansion and modernization of Lourdes’ emergency and radiology departments as well as new Open MRI and two new surgical suites. A new ambulatory care building was also constructed to contain the gastroenterology suite, rehabilitation department, outpatient blood lab, pre-admission testing area, and hospital registration with a new two-story main entrance connecting it to the existing structure.
Our scope of work for the project was comprehensive. O’Connell constructed and installed all primary, secondary, and standby power distribution systems, the hospital’s specialized ‘medical systems’, interior and exterior lighting, and fire, life safety, and communications systems. Construction of the hospital’s dedicated power house included the installation of two Milton Cat 750kW packaged standby engine generator sets in conjunction with Russelectric paralleling switchgear and transfer switches for maintaining power across the hospital’s critical, life safety, emergency, and mechanical systems as well as Open MRI. Additionally, our Technical Services Division performed start-up testing and commissioning for the new electrical service, distribution systems, and equipment.
Through careful planning, O’Connell executed periodic power shutdowns throughout various stages of the project, completing all work with no disruption to ongoing hospital operations. The hospital’s Open MRI and surgical suites required special coordination efforts involving the customer, manufacturers, consultants, contractors, and staff to ensure proper systems configuration, operation, and turnover. O’Connell was found to be in good standing during numerous unscheduled inspections conducted by New York State’s Department of Health and Human Services.
O’Connell’s Core Values in Action: For the Lourdes expansion project O’Connell employed a full-time, on-site superintendent who oversaw the day-to-day job site operations and was the face of our company to hospital representatives, the GC, and all other involved parties. The superintendent played an active role at both the weekly construction meetings and two-week look-ahead planning sessions in addition to maintaining O’Connell’s formal onsite Quality Assurance program. Through the employment of advanced training practices, OSHA certifications, onsite Lunch Box Safety Talks, daily safety inspections, and two-week look-ahead participation, O’Connell was able to maintain an impeccable safety and performance record throughout the project.
